Plain four tortillas

Serves: 16

Ingredients

  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ⅓ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup warm water

Method

Mix flour, salt, and baking powder thoroughly.

While mixing add water and oil until it becomes smooth dough.

Flour your surface. On the floured surface, divide dough in half until you have 16 pieces. Roll each piece into a ball. Flatten each piece with the palm of your hand as much as possible.

Cover dough with towel. Leave for 15 minutes.

Heat large pan to medium-high heat.

With rolling pin, roll each piece of dough into a circle. Make sure you don't stack the uncooked tortilla or they will get soggy.

When pan is hot place on tortilla in the centre. Cook for 1 minute or until bottom surface has a few pale brown spots. Flip and cook the other side for 30 seconds and you are done. If the tortilla is cooking too fast, turn the heat down.
